Nokia Lumia 800 gets firmware update , Battery life reportedly tripled

Nokia's first Windows Phone handset , the Lumia 800 has received its 3rd major update since launch. The update reportedly fixes the fairly average battery life of the handset. Initial reports estimate upto triple the battery life compared to the previous update. The update is also said to fix the lack of bass in audio via headsets. Version 1600.2487.8107.12070 as this firmware update is called also fixes the Auto White balance related problems plaguing the handset.  We've updated our own handset and will get back to you with impressions post the update soon enough. The update should be available shortly around the world.

Nokia launches unique Music Theatre initiative in India, unveils the first Music Theatre album

Nokia has unveiled Nokia Music Theatre, a new premier platform for discovering and nurturing musical talent from the grassroots and providing them with an opportunity to showcase their talent in partnership with The Peninsula Studios. They have also launched the first Nokia Music Theatre album. Nokia Music Theatre aims to provide a 360-degree support to talented musicians across the country transcending boundaries of languages, genres and musical forms. The project was successfully piloted in Rajasthan in 2010 where 17 artistes were handpicked from small towns and villages across the state from 700 diverse musicians representing an array of alternative genres of music. The finalists have also launched first music album – Asha – discovery of the Peninsula under the banner of Nokia Music Theatre published by Universal Music. The album is also available for download on the Nokia Music Store. After implementing it successfully in Rajasthan, the Music Theater will pick new talents in Uttar Pradesh in the Autumn of 2012.

MTS expands MBlaze services in Maharashtra and Goa

MTS has expanded its MBlaze high-speed data service to 8 more towns in Maharashtra and Goa. They expanded the MBlaze services in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala last month. The MTS MBlaze service is now available in Khopoli, Lonavala, Baramati ,Beed ,Mahad ,Ratnagiri ,Satara and Karad in Maharashtra and Goa. This extends the current MBlaze footprint to 26 towns across the circle. MTS provides High Speed Mobile Broadband services in over 300 Indian cities including the top 5 metros. They have also launched daily usage plan that offers unlimited data usage for one day for just Rs. 96. The Unlimited monthly pack starts at Rs.798 that is valid for 30 days. MTS tied up with Hewlett Packard (HP) recently. On purchase of an HP laptop, customers can get an MBlaze device for just Rs. 699 along with the monthly data usage of 3GB at just Rs. 444 per month for lifetime.

Samsung has announced a new affordable Android phone, Galaxy Pocket. This has 2.8-inch touch screen display and runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It is powered by 832MHz processor. It has 2MP fixed focus camera. It is 11.98mm thick and weighs 97g. Samsung Galaxy Pocket specifications 2.8-inch touch screen display Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) 832MHz processor 2MP fixed focus camera 3G - HSDPA 3.6Mbps, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth v3.0 3GB user memory, expandable memory up to 32GB with MicroSD. FM radio, 3.5mm audio jack 1200 mAh battery It comes with ChatON, cross-platform communication service and Social Hub that has Instant Messaging, social network and email communications. Samsung Galaxy Pocket would be available in Italy starting from March, and will be gradually rolled out to Europe, CIS, Latin America, Southeast and Southwest Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and China. It would be priced at 139 euros (~US$ 189).

Tata DOCOMO Photon Max new postpaid Unlimited plan now available in Mumbai

Tata DOCOMO has launched the new Photon Max 1000 Unlimited plan in Mumbai. They launched the plan for Hyderabad customers earlier this week. The Photon Max service is based on Rev-B CDMA technology that promises higher speeds up to 6.2 Mbps compared to their Photon Plus service. The new post-paid plan comes with a monthly rental of Rs 1,000 and has 3GB free data (Upload + Download) at up to 6.2 Mbps (downlink) and 3.6 Mbps (Uplink) speed. Post 3GB, speeds would be throttled to 153.6 Kbps. This plan is available for all Photon Max post-paid customers in Mumbai.

Android Market app limit increased to 4GB from 50MB

Google has increased the App limit in the Android Market from 50MB to 4GB. This would let the app developers to upload high-quality 3D interactive games of higher size easily. The size of your APK file is limited to 50MB to ensure secure on-device storage, but expansion files can be attached to the  APK. Each APK can have 2 expansion files of 2GB each which is 4GB that would be hosted in the Android Market to save you the cost. AT&T has announced the Beats by Dr. Dre Beatbox Portable high performance wireless audio system for their customers. They announced the HTC One X last week which would be their first smartphone with built-in Beats Audio By Dr. Dre. They have also announced the Android 4.0 update for HTC Vivid customers would be available in coming weeks that would offer optimized audio experience with Beats By Dr. Dre Audio profiles. Features of Beats by Dr. Dre Beatbox Portable inputs that provide a built-in Dock Connector for smartphones or portable music players, plus Bluetooth wireless. Full-featured remote with On/Off, Volume, Mute, Scan and Skip buttons. Easy-carry handles on both sides. Operates on either 6 D-cell batteries or a computer power supply. A 5.25 inch woofer and 3.5 MM input for other sources.
